[Overview] The Crow's Eye

The gameplay of the game can be divided into two parts. In the first one, it's a classic wandering through rooms, searching for various objects, keys to get to other locations, as well as challenging puzzles that challenge the player. The puzzles in the game are made in such a way that you do not need to search for a solution superficially. It happens that you often need to return to previous rooms or just look at the situation from a different angle. There is a crafting system, but somewhat in an unusual form. It resembles something from the original Resident Evil here. That is, the player finds only those items that can be combined and applied in the future. In general, it looks interesting. Creepy music keeps the atmosphere mysterious, and in some moments it was really scary. The game rewards especially curious players with a diverse narrative in the form of notes from missing people, secret documents that shed light on the mysterious events of twenty years ago. There are also audio recordings scattered around the mansion, which also help to immerse yourself in the atmosphere of the game.

There is an interesting feature in the audio recordings, each of them shows their duration. Now about the next part of the game. In the story, the main character first finds a syringe with adrenaline, which can be used to slow down time. This is useful at times when you need to deftly get to the right place or bypass an obstacle. But the presence of such an element immediately caused internal incomprehensible worries. And I turned out to be right, further along the plot, the player receives an electromagnetic gadget with which the hero can move strange things and move himself. It was at this point that the horror game just ended for me. Further along the plot are various puzzles, which I no longer have the desire to write about. In my opinion, the developers needed to put an end to this point, and not artificially stretch the game time.

The Crow's Eye is based on the Unity game engine, and this is one example of how Unity can make a simple but really cool picture. It's not realistic, of course, but it has its own style, which is somewhat reminiscent of the Bioshock and The Bureau: XCOM Declassified series of games. Despite the not very complicated technical design, the game cannot boast of optimization (I hope the situation will change for the better over time). Poor optimization is not the only disadvantage of the game. From time to time, sounds disappear in locations, causing an unpleasant silence (I hope this will also be fixed over time). The last controversial disadvantage of the game is its duration. You can complete the game with a search for all emails and audio recordings in about 8:00. On the one hand, there is a lot of this, as I wrote above, the game could have ended somewhere in the middle, but on the other hand, if the game had been the same as at the beginning, I would have liked a longer story. As a result, the impression is ambiguous.

Bottom line: In my opinion, this is not the game I've been waiting for for three years, but I can't deny that I liked it anyway. The puzzles were interesting to solve, and in some moments they were really scary. The price of the game is more than fair - $ 9.99. If the game had remained the way it was at the initial levels, I would have recommended it with confidence. Therefore, it all depends on the player.
